In its 13th year, Sustainable House Day is a grassroots initiative that promotes the benefits of integrating renewable energy, recycling, and other sustainable practices into the home and everyday lifestyle. The general public will have the opportunity to tour more than 200 Australian homes for inspiration, tips and ideas on how to live more environmentally responsibly within the home.

The 2014 event, to be held on Sunday 7 and Sunday 14 September 2014, is calling for participants and volunteers for all aspects of the event, including:

• Homeowners who have created homes that feature a variety of sustainable features to open their homes and host tours. Categories include building and construction, garden and outdoors, water harvesting, renewable energy, heating and cooling, fixtures and fittings and appliances.

• Local environment groups who are interested in hosting Sustainable House Day within their local area including coordinating homes and volunteers and hosting ancillary events.

• Volunteers who are available to assist homeowners and local groups with opening their homes and running ancillary events.

• Businesses looking to support this event through promotion and sponsorship on a local and national level.

In its 13th year, this event has long proven to be a positive influence on people making sustainable changes and updates within their home and lifestyle. Be involved in changing behavior and promoting sustainability through your participation in Sustainable House Day 2014. The deadline for applications to open homes is Friday 16 August 2014.

Sustainable House Day is proudly sponsored by Sanctuary Magazine, bankmecu, and EnviroShop and is an initiative of the Australian Solar Council.
